In a thriving economy unemployment is low, labor force participation is high and those who want a job can have a job, unless you are an individual with a disability. Even though the unemployment rate is dropping for people with disabilities, it is still twice that of the general population. Hiring a person with a disability has its challenges for any company. The person may need longer to learn certain parts of the job; they may need a flexible schedule that works around their transportation, or they may need fewer hours in a day. However, those usually come with a keen sense of loyalty, a strong work ethic, and high job satisfaction. Employers who make the investment and hire a person with a disability, frequently note that the positive outcomes far outweigh the initial considerations of meeting the needs of the new hire.
